Advice and Advocacy Manager

Salary expectation: £34,635 to £41,864

Duties and Responsibilities

Purpose of the job

The Advice and Advocacy Manager will provide leadership and oversight to the Union’s Advice Centre ensuring the service is continually improved and developed to offer the best possible service to UCL students. The service supports students who are in need of information, advice or advocacy on a wide range of topics including: academic matters, housing, money, rights and immigration.

The Advice and Advocacy Manager will be responsible for working with other Union departments, informing their campaigning and lobbying work through collating and sharing quantitative and qualitative information. They will look to proactively solve problems that affect UCL students by addressing root causes and affecting change in UCL policy and procedure.

The post-holder will also be responsible for working with student officers, staff at UCL and external partners in delivering advice services at the Union. They will be responsible for ensuring the services conform to best practice, legal standards and codes of practice. They will develop relationships and form meaningful partnerships that look to improve the student experience at UCL.

Key Requirements

The successful candidate must have experience of providing information, advice and advocacy to student clients and experiencing of developing student-facing marketing and promotion activities. The post holder must have an understanding of common issues faced by students such as academic appeals, housing and rights problems, including relevant legislation and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide-range of stakeholders from student volunteers to senior UCL staff.
