This is a full-time role
Do you feel passionately about helping to end the UK’s housing crisis? We’re looking for a Campaigns Officer with a background in digital campaigning, organising or mobilization to help drive change.
Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. And we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help. We’re here so no one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own.
Our focus is squarely on winning big for those in housing need. There is a growing housing crisis in our country affecting people up and down the UK – from homeless people on the streets or in temporary accommodation, to those renting expensive, poor quality homes. The Grenfell Tower fire was the most horrifying reminder of the consequences when people’s voices aren’t heard. Shelter has an enormous responsibility to play a positive role in ensuring that they are, and that this leads to change.
Thanks in part to our campaigning over the years, housing is now top of the public and political agenda. Next, we need to turn this into change that genuinely transforms people’s lives. Shelter is further developing its ability to inspire a movement to change housing in Britain with ambitious goals to increase the effectiveness of housing activism right across the country. The job of the Campaigns team is to support and help to build that movement, while – crucially – reaching out to a broad and diverse constituency of people.
About the role
Reporting to our Supporter Mobilisation Manager, you’ll take responsibility for leading on specific campaigning areas and supporting our wider engagement objectives, helping to build a movement for change. You’ll be scoping out and working up campaigns plans, developing calls to action and delivering on and offline tactics, as part of an eight-person campaigns team. You’ll be working closely with colleagues from across and outside the organisation.
You’re great a strategic thinking, have a taste for innovation and bags of creativity and you enjoy seizing opportunities as they arise to be part of timely, strategic and inspiring campaigns. You may have a background in campaigning, organising, activism or communications. This role is not an entry-level post, so you will have some work experience in a relevant field. Above all, you’ll need to be passionate about making a difference to one of the biggest emerging social issues of our day – Britain’s housing crisis.
Benefits include 30 days’ annual leave, the possibility of flexible working, enhanced family friendly policies and significant opportunities for learning and development.
Safeguarding is everyone’s business. Shelter is committed to protecting the health, wellbeing and human rights of those we support, and enabling them to live free from harm, abuse and neglect. All our staff will be expected to observe professional standards of behaviour and conduct their work in line with our Safeguarding Policies.
