Location: Rode, near Frome, Somerset - Hybrid working, with at least one day per week in the office.

Salary expectation: £28,000 to £32,000

About CHASE Africa

CHASE Africa is a growing UK-based international NGO working to support rural communities in East Africa. We believe that improving the health of women and girls through addressing their Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights and making health services more accessible and acceptable, leads to healthier communities, which in turn contributes to healthier natural environments.

In parallel to its core health programmes, CHASE Africa also supports activities that aim to protect the environment by supporting community-level activities to promote and improve sustainable management of natural resources and reduce land degradation and biodiversity loss. For rural communities that are heavily dependent on natural resources, this not only benefits ecosystems but improves livelihoods and lives, especially of rural women and children who bear the burden of activities such as collecting water and firewood.

CHASE Africa supports local partner organisations in East Africa to run community health programmes. Over the past 10 years, we have delivered 1.2 million healthcare services and over 550,000 rights-based family planning services to marginalised communities in Kenya and Uganda. We work entirely through local partners. These are organisations in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, already working with rural communities on a variety of activities. We provide financial, technical, and capacity-building support to our partners. We facilitate exchange visits between partners, organise webinars and host an annual CHASE Africa Partner Network Conference, where knowledge exchange and learning takes place – both across the network and by bringing in relevant external experts and practitioners to speak. The CHASE Africa partner network has become a powerful and valuable forum for sharing best practices and experiences.


CHASE Africa is a small, friendly and dedicated team, based in North Somerset, that is going through an exciting period of transition and growth, with a new CEO in 2022, a change of charitable structure to a CIO in 2023, ongoing review of governance structures and plans to set-up a CHASE Africa entity in East Africa in 2025. We have ambitious plans to increase our impact and income over the next 5 years. The team have developed excellent relationships with numerous trusts and foundations, high net-worth individuals and regular donors and has an excellent retention rate of existing funders.

CHASE Africa is looking for maternity cover for one year for the role of Communication and Engagement Coordinator who will play a key role in helping to achieve these targets.


Communications and Engagement Coordinator

The Communications and Engagement Coordinator will be responsible for all communications and supporter engagement by producing excellent and compelling communications materials. You will build audiences through managing CHASE Africa’s social media platforms, website, print materials and press relations. The coordinator will play a pivotal role in communicating CHASE Africa’s work in East Africa to engage existing supporters and attract new followers and funders, helping to achieve our strategic objectives.

The coordinator will work closely with the fundraising and programmes team, as well as local partner organisations, to create and communicate appealing stories and content which inspire members of the public to support our work. The role aims to engage supporters with our work, increase individual giving through campaigns, social media and our website and catalyse new opportunities.

This position reports to a member of the senior management team. This office is located near Frome. Hybrid working with one day a week in the office.


Hours, Remuneration and Contract

This role is a 1-year fixed-term contract. The role is initially for 2.5/3.00 days a week, with the potential to increase subject to funding.

The salary offered is £ 28,000- £ 32,000 full-time equivalent, depending on experience.

Job Description   

Coordinate CHASE Africa’s external communications.

  • Manage the CHASE Africa website (in CRAFT), ensuring pages are engaging and up to date.
  • Manage CHASE Africa’s Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube accounts to grow followers, and increase engagement and donations.
  • Coordinate the production of our Annual Impact Report.
  • Produce and promote CHASE Africa’s quarterly supporter newsletter.
  • Create new, engaging content for the CHASE Africa website and social media platforms.
  • Coordinate the commissioning of a CHASE Africa video.
  • Ensure consistency of messaging of all communications materials.
  • Coordinate the production of print materials, such as leaflets and training materials, using your own skills or working with graphic designers.
  • Work with the team to identify communications needs across the organisation and prepare strategies, messaging and work plans in response to these needs.

 Lead on supporter engagement and campaigns

  • Lead on putting together virtual fundraising campaigns including The Big Give and Remember a Charity Week to increase donations to CHASE Africa’s work.
  • Manage mailings through MAILCHIMP and communications on our CRM Donorfy.
  • Coordinate communications for CHASE Africa’s 25th anniversary campaign in 2025.

 Build communications capacity within CHASE Africa’s partner network

  • Support CHASE Africa partner organisations and programmes staff to procure high-quality, engaging project images, case studies and stories.
  • Build the capacity of partners through providing training in person, online or in written format.


  • Contribute to the delivery of CHASE Africa’s fundraising and communication strategy
  • Ensure all work undertaken complies with data protection and GDPR rules.
  • Attend and participate in Staff and Trustee meetings, as required.
  • Support other communications tasks as required.


Person Specification: Skills and Experiences


  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a relevant communications role(s).
  • Experience designing and delivering digital communications campaigns.
  • Experience communicating different cultures to a UK audience.
  • Experience in communicating sensitive topics and appreciation of using appropriate language.
  • Proven experience in working across teams to provide support and gather relevant information.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to meet regular deadlines.
  • Ability to process large amounts of information to write compelling and engaging stories.
  • Experience in managing and producing engaging content for social media channels to increase donor engagement and grow the number of followers.
  • Strong storytelling and copywriting skills.
  • Experience editing websites (especially CRAFT).
  • A strong interest and understanding of CHASE Africa’s work.
  • Right to work in the UK.



  • Previous experience working for an international development charity.
  • Understanding and awareness of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights.
  • Graphic design, photo and video editing skills.
  • Relevant bachelor’s degree.
