Public Affairs Assistant

Location: The Angel, Greater London (Hybrid)

Salary expectation: £23,000 to £24,000

Application deadline: Fri 19th August

This is a full-time role

Dogs Trust is the UK’s largest dog welfare charity and normally cares for around 14,000 dogs across its network of 21 rehoming centres in the UK and one in Dublin.

The Public Affairs Team works across Westminster, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the EU, to ensure the health and welfare of dogs is always taken into consideration by policy makers. In addition to our direct political engagement, Dogs Trust chairs the Pet Advertising Advisory Group (PAAG) which aims to combat growing concerns regarding the irresponsible advertising of pets for sale, rehoming, and exchange. We also provide the secretariat for the EU Dog & Cat Alliance, through which we engage with EU policy makers, and call for EU action to build a better Europe for dogs and cats.

This administrative role will support the work of our ambitious public affairs work programme across Westminster and Whitehall, the devolved administrations and in the EU. This role also supports the management of the Pet Advertising Advisory Group (PAAG) and the EU Dog & Cat Alliance, both of which our team provides the secretariat for, as well as supporting our wider UK public affairs work.

This role is very busy, and the successful applicant will require the ability to remain calm under pressure, with a flexible but methodical approach and able to change direction quickly. It is important that the candidate is able to work as part of a team, but also able to work unsupervised and use their own initiative as appropriate.

Working hours are 9am to 5pm and while based in the London Office we operate ona hybrid model where you will split your time between office and homeworking. Occasional flexibility is necessary plus travel and overnight stays when required.

An interest and sympathy for the aims of Dogs Trust is essential and the post holder must be comfortable around dogs.

Deadline: Fri 19th August
