Purpose of Engagement
Compassion in World Farming is seeking a senior campaigns and advocacy freelancer/consultant to provide short‑term support to our Global Campaigns Teams across our priority campaigns.
As part of this opportunity, the freelancer/consultant will help to strengthen CIWF’s capacity to deliver ambitious campaigns at a pivotal time, supporting major legislative opportunities around cage bans, live exports, and food system transformation across the globe. You will need to bring creative leadership and hands‑on execution to help drive public mobilisation, deliver innovative tactics, influence policy environments, and grow our partner networks.
Key Objectives
- Shape and deliver our campaigns, with a focus on dismantling animal welfare harms within factory farming , primarily across our END.IT, End the Cage Age and Ban Live Export programmes.
- Drive high impact public mobilisation around our core vision, ending cruel systems and accelerating a shift to humane, nature-friendly farming.
- Strengthen global coordination, ensuring the campaigns work of our country offices across Europe, the UK, the US and South Africa is unified, timely and strategically aligned.
Scope of Work & Deliverables
Design & Delivery of High Impact Campaigning
- Provide expertise in shaping the campaigns’ creative direction, narrative, messaging and public-facing identity.
- Translate animal welfare objectives into compelling campaign propositions that resonate across global audiences.
- Identify strategic moments, political windows and public mobilisation opportunities essential to the success of ‑each campaign.
- Build and guide campaign plans that highlight key animal welfare issues such as cages, live transport, slaughter standards and high risk species (e.g. fish).
- Lead the development of supporter actions, digital mobilisation, public campaigning tactics, and storytelling outputs that bring our campaigns to life.
- Provide guidance on creative assets, public actions, and external agency work where required.
Advocacy Alignment
- Ensure campaigning supports and amplifies CIWF advocacy efforts, including:
- Legislative timelines in the EU and UK
- Welfare revision packages
- Lobbying opportunities around food system transformation, cage bans, live export prohibitions, and fish welfare
- Advise on integrating policy arguments into accessible, persuasive public narratives.
- Strengthen relationships with NGOs, coalitions and movement partners.
Cross-Team‑ Coordination
- Ensure clear alignment across teams involved in campaigns (Communications, Campaigns, Research & Policy, EU, Food Business, International Affairs, EU & Fundraising).
- Help maintain coherent and timely internal briefings, action trackers, messaging frameworks, and campaign calendars.
Monitoring & Insight
- Provide targeted campaign analysis, performance recommendations and strategic insights to inform real-time decision‑ making‑.
- Where requested, support preparation of senior briefings and summary reports for leadership.
