Archive – Jonathan Ellis

Jonathan has developed a distinctive approach to campaigning over the past 25 years, which he uses as a campaigner, teacher and catalyst.

As a campaigner, he leads Detention Forum, a network of over 50 NGOs, challenging the use of immigration detention in the UK, and recently led the development of the Campaign Organising Network for Together with Refugees.

As a teacher, he has supported Bond, NCVO and SMK;  leadership training for Shpresa Programme; and is author of a global advocacy toolkit and train the trainers course for the International Federation of Red Cross. He has online campaigning courses on Udemy (over 5,000 students in 138 countries). He has also published books on campaigning and public speaking, and was a visiting lecturer on the MA in political communication at City University in London.

As a catalyst, he helps people across the world to campaign for change. He is currently supporting the London Refugee Community Organisations’ Forum at the Refugee Council, the Voices Network at the British Red Cross, and City of Sanctuary UK with both their Politics in Sanctuary and Speak up for Sanctuary courses.

    About The Right Ethos

The Right Ethos was set up after our founder, Jonathan Dearth, had worked in the campaigning sector for 13 years, for campaigning organisations including Amnesty International, Shelter, Liberty and the World Development Movement. It was set up as a response to multi-sector recruitment consultancies moving in on the charity sector, and in particular not recognising that people who work for campaigning organisations are motivated by justice and long term change.
