Do you have a great eye for a story and are keen to win for working people?

The TUC is looking for a press officer to join one of the busiest press teams in the country.

This is a senior position in the TUC, with significant responsibility, and would suit someone who brings a wealth of experience of media relations.

You’ll be joining a campaigns department that runs numerous high-profile campaigns every year, secures extensive media coverage and supports our General Secretary Paul Nowak to demand change for working people.

In this general election year, unions will be out there fighting for jobs and for a New Deal for Working People. Join us.

What experience, skills, knowledge and understanding do you need?

  • You’ll be able to spot a news angle and respond within minutes to breaking events
  • You’ll have great judgement and be able to take the initiative
  • You’ll share our trade union and antiracist values

If this is you, then take a look at our job description and person specification.

We welcome applications from any candidate but are particularly keen to receive applications from Black, Asian and minority ethnic candidates, who are underrepresented at this grade in the TUC. If this is you and you’re interested in the post, we invite you to join an online briefing on Wednesday 1 May 2024 at 12.30 pm about the post, to hear about the TUC and ask questions of the recruiting manager. If you’d like to attend the briefing, please email jobs@tuc.org.uk  by 4.30 pm on Friday 27 April 2024. You don’t need to attend the briefing session to apply.

The closing date for completed applications for this post is 12 noon on Wednesday 8 May 2024.

The TUC removes candidate names and institutions attended from all applications before shortlisting. This is a two-stage interview process, you’ll be required to complete an online assessment before shortlisting for interview.  First stage Interviews will be held online on Thursday 30 May 2024 with second stage in-person interviews on Wednesday 5 June 2024 .

If you haven’t heard from us within one week of the closing date, please assume that your application has been unsuccessful.

Carefully read the guidance notes before completing the application. The person specification contains the minimum criteria required for performing the position and the job description outlines the tasks, duties and responsibilities for the post

The TUC operates an anonymised recruitment process and names are not included during shortlisting. We don’t ask for details of educational institutions attended.
